Rema's Block: A journey between the barriers of language
Welcome to my site! My name is Rema, and I am a first year Chemistry major but with a cumulative interest in various topics. This website documents my journey researching language barriers and forming an arguement. It also documents my own personal growth and development as both a writer and a speaker. I hope you enjoy!
Rhetorical Situation:
This site provides a look into the effects of language barriers and how they impact society. Language barriers are not a topic frequently discussed in media and are often overlooked by individuals that are not directly impacted by it. In the United States, the majority of the population speaks English and does not openly care about the quality of life of individuals that have immigrated and do not speak English. The fact of the matter is, there are people residing in this country that do not speak the common language and as a result they are not receiving the treatment that they deserve or need. This website was made for the purpose of raising awareness on the issue and conveying the imminent effects its has on the quality of life for diverse individuals. It begins with an inquiry on the issue and develops into an argument that discusses the significance of it as well as why more action needs to be taken in regards to it. The digital essay itself is designed in a way where the reader is first given a thorough background on the issue, given evidence of the issue in the modern context, and then concluded with the argument at hand.

Highlights:
There were many differing aspects to this assignment and the process behind it, but the bibliohgraphy and digital essays themselves have the greatest value within the site. The bibliography provides an extensive analysis of the research involved in the assignment and the digital essay pieces it together in a formal yet artful way. |
Choices:
Language barriers are not something you can describe and explain with images, so for this assignment I wanted to maintain an editorial theme throughout the site. I wanted my work to appear like an informative piece that could be found on a website but I wanted it to be unique so that it caught the viewers eye. The focus of the website is the content itself, and I want the viewers to read my words as if they were reading my journal. |
